So when should you call 999, and should you use 101 instead?

Cleveland Police have today issued a reminder on the use of their emergency and non-emergency telephone numbers.

999

This is the Police emergency number.

“Always use 999 in an emergency where there is risk of injury, there is risk of serious damage to property, you suspect a crime is in progress, if there is a serious incident which needs immediate police attendance. ”

101

This is the Police non-emergency number.

“Call 101 where there is no immediate risk to life, the crime is not in progress, the offender is not nearby or you have a general enquiry.”
