A Chinese Takeaway that was recently voted the best in Teesside by readers of the Gazette is set to reopen on Thursday.

Saigon, on The Avenue in Teesville unexpectedly closed “until further notice” earlier this month after owner, and chef Peter Nguyen, a.k.a. “Saigon Sam” suffered a fall.  He went to hospital and was ordered to rest, having been found to have broken ribs.

Peter, who moved to Teesside from Vietnam in 1981 and opened Saigon in Teesville in the early 1990s.

He told the Gazette “We called it Saigon after the place where we are from, now Ho Chi Minh City. That’s why it’s a Vietnamese name rather than Chinese.”
