Over Christmas its inevitable that they’ll be alot of rubbish and recycling to get rid of – from wrapping paper, packaging and possibly even your real Christmas tree.
Due to Christmas Day and Boxing Day falling on Monday and Tuesday respectively there’s going to be some changes to your usual collection days.
We’ve put together this hand guide to make sure you remember to put our your rubbish and recycling on the correct days.
Darlington
In Darlington refuse and recycling collections will be running one day late between Tuesday 26th and Friday 29th December.
- Tuesday collections will take place on Wednesday 27th.
- Wednesday collections will take place on Thursday 28th.
- Thursday collections will take place on Friday 29th.
- Friday collections will take place on Saturday 30th.
Normal collections resume from the 2nd January.
Christmas Tree Recycling
Darlington Borough Council aren’t running a Christmas tree recycling scheme this year, but you can take your tree to the Household Waste Recycling Facility on Whessoe Road.
Alternatively volunteers from Darlington Rotary Club can collect and get rid of your tree for a small donation to St Teresa’s Hospice.

Hartlepool
There are NO CHANGES to refuse and recycling collections over the festive period in Hartlepool.
Christmas Tree Recycling
These can be disposed of at the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Burn Road from Wednesday 27th December.
Alternatively Hartlepool Council are offering a FREE collection service for trees from the 8th January, which must be booked online at www.hartlepool.gov.uk/collectmytree or telephone 01429 523330.
Middlesbrough
In Middlesbrough refuse and recycling collections will be running one day late between Tuesday 26th and Friday 29th December.
- Tuesday collections will take place on Wednesday 27th.
- Wednesday collections will take place on Thursday 28th.
- Thursday collections will take place on Friday 29th.
- Friday collections will take place on Saturday 30th.
Normal collections resume from the 2nd January.
Christmas Tree Recycling
For a small donation Teesside Hospice are offering a Christmas tree collection service between the 5th and 7th January. Their volunteers will collect your tree and arrange for it to be recycled and used to build a path in Stewart Park. This must be booked online at www.charityxmastreecollection.com or by calling 01642 811150.
Middlesbrough Council will be collecting Christmas trees from Tuesday 9th January to Friday 12th January on your normal refuse collection day.
Redcar and Cleveland
In Redcar and Cleveland, Zone 1a and Zone 1b, which usually have their collections on Tuesdays will have arranged collections.
- In Zone 1a – Normanby, Teesville, Ormesby, Spencerbeck, South Bank, Flatts Lane and Bankfields – will have their General Waste collected on Wednesday 27th December.
- In Zone 1b – Eston, Lazenby, Lackenby and Whale Hill – will have their Recycling collected on Thursday 28th December.
- In Zone 1b – Grangetown and Eston Under Nab – will have their Recycling collected on Friday 29th December.
Christmas Tree Recycling
There will be no Christmas tree recycling collections this year, but they can be recycled at Dunsdale Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Stockton-on-Tees
In Stockton-on-Tees refuse and recycling collections will be running one day late between Tuesday 26th and Friday 29th December.
- Tuesday collections will take place on Wednesday 27th.
- Wednesday collections will take place on Thursday 28th.
- Thursday collections will take place on Friday 29th.
- Friday collections will take place on Saturday 30th.
