Following a 3-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge Middlesbrough FC have been relegated from the Premier League.
By half time Boro were 2-0 down after Diego Costa and Alonso scored for Chelsea in the 23rd and 34th minutes of the game. In the second half Matic made it three in the 65th minute.
This was a must win match for the Boro and Steve Agnew’s side knew that they would be relegated if they didn’t win. The win for Chelsea puts them one win away from the Premier League title.
Boro will join fellow North East side Sunderland in the Championship next season who’s relegation had already been sealed.
Middlesbrough were seen to have one of the best defences in the league, but unfortunately a lack of firepower up front has seen them struggle this season.
Just 12 months ago Boro sealed promotion to the Premier League after finishing 2nd in the Championship.
