The Labour Party has today announced that Stockton GP Dr Paul Williams will be their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Stockton South Constituency.
Paul trained as a doctor in Newcastle, and gained a masters degree in public health. He now works as a partner at a GP surgery in Stockton and is the CEO of a federation of 37 local GP practices working together within Stockton and Hartlepool.
Paul said: “I recently spent four years on the Governing Body of Hartlepool and Stockton-on-Tees Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) where I was the GP lead for the Stockton locality. I also led the commissioning of mental health, learning disabilities and dementia services for the CCG. We achieved a significant increase in patients accessing psychological therapies, improved dementia identification in the community and worked with the voluntary and community sector co-designing social health interventions.”
“I represent local general practice on the Stockton-on-Tees and Hartlepool Health and Wellbeing Boards, providing strategic input and leadership.”
“I have spent my career in the North East of England and in Uganda, where I led a hospital and community health program for five years, including women’s health, malaria, HIV and children’s health programs. I designed an implemented a community health insurance scheme that gives free health at the point of need to 60,000 rural people.”
Dr Williams is also a trustee at the ARC in Stockton and is a board member of Catalyst, a local volunteering organisation. He is also a Patron of Stockton-based charity Justice First.
Paul, who lives in Stockton with his partner Vicky and his two daughters, enjoys swimming, cycling and running.
